Scam Domain Renewal Letters and Emails

If you receive a letter or email that your domain name renewal is due, it is important that you take a close look at the details because you may have received domain name renewal scam.

Your domain name registration information is public, this means that your email and other information relating to your domain name registration is obtainable for others to see. You can avoid this issue by paying for domain privacy protection.

One of the key indicators that the letter may be a hoax is the cost of domain renewal, which is usually a lot more than your regular domain name renewal fee (which is generally be between $12 – $18 annually). These scams use your actual registered domain name and make attempts to trick you into switching to their services from your current registrar.

The letters and emails make it appear that they are the authorized and current registrar, which they are not. They also use wording such as, “This is an invitation to register, disregard this letter if you are not the proprietor or if you do not wish to register,” which is why is it always important to read the fine print to avoid paying for these because as you start the process of transferring your domain to their service, it is a hard process to reverse.
If you receive any of these emails or letters, please do not pay! The best thing you can do is to contact us or your actual domain registrar for all renewals right away.

NOTE: We recommend that you DO NOT CLICK on any links within the email as well.  The links normally track the opening and can take you to a page you don’t want to visit.
